Last weekend, as I strolled through the garden center – my favorite haunt – I noticed a battle-scarred, lonely, sad, withered “stumpy” in a forgotten corner. It showed signs of neglect and harsh treatment, probably due to the rains we’ve had for a few days, but its appeal was captivating. I knew I could nurse this beauty back to life.
End result is I’ve been adopted by a plant with an identity crisis. This little critter thinks it’s an “Elk Antler” but it happens to have been ‘Walking’ all the way from central and southern Madascar showing off its long, arching stolons producing offspring as it walks and rightly blushing redish pink!
So I call it “MOOSE”!
Quite seriously, this captivating succulent’s botanical name is “Walking Kalanchoe.” The name failed to take my fancy as it did not capture the personality of this unusual plant. So as a gardener possessed with succulents, I admired it and stared at it from all angles for a while with its spread out form looking more like a moose’s antlers.
I then decided what the hell the succulent was mine and I can do what I want with it. I decided to change the name to something more appropriate and suitable to its structure. So “Moose” is the name better suited to its appearance depicting resilience, toughness and low maintenance. Just like its friends from the succulent world of plants.

Walking Kalanchoe, also known as Elk Antler has leaves that resemble antlers and long arching stolons that produce offspring as it spreads.
